Janet Selby lives in southern Sydney as an artist working predominantly in ceramics.
Many guides and elders have influenced her artistic and spiritual life beginning with her father Keith Selby whose experience in painting and drawing set her on the path of creativity.
Technical skills in the art world were developed through attendance at traditional art school in Sydney. However, it was Master sculptor Tom Bass who confirmed the importance and spiritual value of beauty and integrity in form. Also learning from respected teacher and painter Desiderius Orban, Janet experienced his challenging teachings about being convincing and authentic.
These principles continue to influence Janet’s own teaching and indeed everyday living.
Many years of Tai Chi Chuan practice paved the way to becoming a student of Zen Buddhism which began in earnest in 1995 with the Sydney Zen Centre.
There are certain places that have special power to make you feel the soul of the earth. Janet’s art represents this sense of connection to place and the experience of peace that permeates the whole environment joining us all together in a deep inner stillness.
